Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h.) ~ Poem

He was honest, truthful and very kind
And the greatest teacher of mankind
Who was exalted in his character too
And never strayed from what is true
Despite the obstacles that prevailed
He struggled on and never failed

And Muhammad (pbuh) is his blessed name
Who called for 'tawheed' when he came
And in the process suffered much
But never lost his special touch
Of being polite and kind and good
And always called for brotherhood

To everyone he brought much joy
Though he was orphaned as a boy
He always led a truthful life
Despite the hardship and the strife
For he was steadfast all the way
Submitting to Allah everyday

He brought guidance so complete
And taught us how to pray and eat
While in the 'sunnah' you will recall
Are detailed teachings for us all
And no more prophets there will be
For he is the final one, you see ..

The celebrated European conqueror, Napoleon Bonaparte says; “Mohammed, in reality, was a great leader of mankind. He preached UNITY among Arabs who were till then, torn as- ...........sometime resulting in bloody warfare. He brought them out of the depth of degradation and taught them the way in which they should live as human beings. .......

.......... “Muhammad was a prince, he rallied his compatriots around him. In a few years the Muslims conquered half of the world. They snatched away more souls from false gods, pulled down more idols, demolished more pagan temples in fifteen years than the followers of Moses and Jesus did in fifteen centuries. Muhammad was a great man.”

He further says: “I hope the time is not far off when I shall be able to unite all the wise and educated men of all countries and establish a uniform regime based on the principles of the Quran which alone are true and which alone can lead men to happiness."

[Napoleon Bonaparte as Quoted in Christian Cherfils, 'Bonaparte et Islam,' Pedone Ed., Paris, France, 1914, pp. 105, 125]

"The extinction of race consciousness as between Muslims is one of the outstanding achievements of Islam, and in the contemporary world there is, as it happens, a crying need for the propagation of this Islamic virtue."

--A.J. Toynbee, CIVILIZATION ON TRIAL, New York, 1948, p. 205.

"  I am not a Muslim in the usual sense, though I hope I am a "Muslim" as "one surrendered to God," but I believe that embedded in the Quran and other expressions of the Islamic vision are vast stores of divine truth from which I and other occidentals have still much to learn, and  'Islam is certainly a strong contender for the supplying of the basic framework of the one religion of the future.'"

"No great religious leader has been so maligned as prophet mohammed. Attacked in the past as a heretic, an impostor, or a sensualist, it is still possible to find him referred to as "the false prophet." A modern german writer accuses prophet mohammed of sensuality, surrounding himself with young women.

This man was not married until he was twenty-five years of age {to a widow who was then, 40 years of age}, then he and his wife lived in happiness and fidelity for twenty-four years, until her death when he was forty-nine.

Only between the age of fifty and his death at sixty-two did prophet Mohammed take other wives, only one of whom was a virgin, and most of them were taken for dynastic and political reasons. certainly the prophet's record was better than the head of the church of england, henry viii."

"it is not the propagation but the permanency of his religion that deserves our wonder, the same pure and perfect impression which he engraved at mecca and medina is preserved, after the revolutions of twelve centuries by the indian, the african and the turkish proselytes of the koran. . . the mahometans have uniformly withstood the temptation of reducing the object of their faith and devotion to a level with the senses and imagination of man.

'i believe in one god and mahomet the apostle of god' is the simple and invariable profession of islam. the intellectual image of the deity has never been degraded by any visible idol; the honours of the prophet have never transgressed the measure of human virtue, and his living precepts have restrained the gratitude of his disciples within the bounds of reason and religion."

"Muhammad, the inspired man who founded Islam, was born about a.d. 570 into an Arabian tribe that worshipped idols. orphaned at birth, he was always particularly solicitous of the poor and needy, the widow and the orphan, the slave and the downtrodden.

At twenty, he was already a successful businessman, and soon became director of camel caravans for a wealthy widow. When he reached twenty-five, his employer, recognizing his merit, proposed marriage. even though she was fifteen years older, he married her, and as long as she lived, remained a devoted husband.

"like almost every major prophet before him, Muhammad fought shy of serving as the transmitter of God's word, sensing his own inadequacy; but the angel commanded "read." So far as we know, Muhammad was unable to read or write, but he began to dictate those inspired words which would soon revolutionize a large segment of the earth: "there is One GOD."

"in all things Muhammad was profoundly practical. when his beloved son ibrahim died, an eclipse occurred, and rumours of god's personal condolence quickly arose. whereupon muhammad is said to have announced, "an eclipse is a phenomenon of nature. it is foolish to attribute such things to the death or birth of a human being."

"at Muhammad's own death an attempt was made to deify him, but the man who was to become his administrative successor killed the hysteria with one of the noblest speeches in religious history: "if there are any among you who worshipped Muhammad, he is dead; but if it is GOD you worshipped, He lives forever."

"if greatness of purpose, smallness of means, and astounding results are the three criteria of human genius, who could dare to compare any great man in modern history with muhammad?

The most famous men created arms, laws and empires only. they founded, if anything at all, no more than material powers which often crumbled away before their eyes.
this man moved not only armies, legislations, empires, peoples and dynasties, but millions of men in one-third of the then inhabited world; and more than that, he moved the altars, the gods, the religions, the ideas, the beliefs and souls. . . his forbearance in victory, his ambition, which was entirely devoted to one idea and in no manner striving for an empire;

His endless prayers, his mystic conversations with god, his death and his triumph after death; all these attest not to an imposture but to a firm conviction which gave him the power to restore a dogma.

This dogma was twofold, the unity of god and the immateriality of god; the former telling what god is, the latter telling what god is not; the one overthrowing false gods with the sword, the other starting an idea with words.

"philosopher, orator, apostle, legislator, warrior, conqueror of ideas, restorer of rational dogmas, of a cult without images; the founder of twenty terrestrial empires and of one spiritual empire, that is Muhammad. as regards all standards by which human greatness may be measured, we may well ask, is there any man greater than he?"

SUPERHUMAN..

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) & Islam

Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, was nothing more or less than a human being, but he was a man with a noble mission, which was to unite humanity on the worship of ONE and ONLY ONE GOD and to teach them the way to honest and upright living based on the commands of God.

He always described himself as, 'A Servant and Messenger of God' and so indeed every action of his proclaimed to be.

"but do you mean to tell me that the man who in the full flush of youthful vigour, a young man of four and twenty (24), married a woman much his senior, and remained faithful to her for six and twenty years (26), at fifty years of age when the passions are dying married for lust and sexual passion? not thus are men's lives to be judged. and you look at the women whom he married, you will find that by every one of them an alliance was made for his people, or something was gained for his followers, or the woman was in sore need of protection."

"Head of State as well as Church, he was Caesar and Pope in One; but he was Pope without the Pope's pretensions, and Caesar without the legions of Caesar, without a standing army, without a bodyguard, without police force, without a fixed revenue. If ever a man ruled by right Divine, it was Muhammad, for he had all the powers without their supports. He cared not for the dressings of power. The simplicity of his private life was in keeping with his public life."

The Encyclopedia Brittanica says that

"Mohammad is the most successful of all Prophets and religious personalities".

The following extract has been taken from the book "The 100 - a Ranking of the Most Influential Person in History" by Michael H. Hart, a Christian American, an astronomer, a mathematician, a chess master, and a scientist. After extensive research, he rated prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as number one and to be considered as the most influential single figure in human history.

"My choice of Muhammad to lead the list of the world's most influential person may surprise some readers and may be questioned by others, but he was the only man in history who was supremely successful on both the religious and secular levels

__________________________________________________________________________________________________

It is probable that the relative influence of Muhammad on Islam has been larger than the combined influence of Jesus Christ and St. Paul on Christianity. Furthermore, Muhammad (unlike Jesus) was a secular as well as religious leader. In fact, as the driving force behind the Arab conquests, he may well rank as the most influential political leader of all time.

It is this unparalleled combination of secular and religious influence, which I feel, entitles Muhammad to be considered the most influential single figure in human history."

"People like Pasteur and Salk are leaders in the first sense. People like Gandhi and Confucius, on the other hand, and Alexander, Caesar on the other, are leaders in the second and perhaps the third sense. Jesus and Buddha belong in the third category alone.

Perhaps the greatest leader of all time was Mohammad, who combined all the three functions. To a lesser degree Moses did the same."

~    Jules Masserman in "Who Were Histories Great Leaders?" TIME Magazine.

One with the worldly status such as Mahatma Gandhi, speaking on the character of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, says in 'Young India':

"I wanted to know the best of one who holds today's undisputed sway over the hearts of millions of mankind. I became more than convinced that it was not the sword that won a place for Islam in those days in the scheme of life.

It was the rigid simplicity, the utter self-effacement of the Prophet, the scrupulous regard for his pledges, his intense devotion to his friends and followers, his intrepidity, his fearlessness, his absolute trust in God and in his own mission.

These and not the sword carried everything before them and surmounted every obstacle. When I closed the 2nd volume (of the Prophet's biography), I was sorry there was not more for me to read of the great life."

Gandhi himself informs us: "A friend recommended Carlyle's Hero and Hero Worship. I read the chapter on the Hero as a prophet, learnt of the Prophet's greatness and bravery and austere living ... These books raised Muhammad in my estimation."

Later, Gandhi read Shibli Numani's biographies of Muslim heroes, books of Hadith, and Syed Amir Ali's books on Islamic history which strengthened his respect for the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) all the more. We find references to the works of Carlyle, Shibli and Amir Ali scattered throughout Gandhi's writings in every period of his life.

"It is impossible for anyone who studies the life and character of the great Prophet of Arabia, who knew how he taught and how he lived, to feel anything but reverence for that mighty Prophet, one of the great messengers of the Supreme.

And although in what I put to you I shall say many things which may be familiar to many, yet I myself feel, whenever I reread them, a new way of admiration, a new sense of reverence for that mighty Arabian teacher."

Speaking on the aspect of equality before God in Islam, the famous poetess of India, Sarojini Naidu says:

"It was the first religion that preached and practiced democracy; for, in the mosque, when the call for prayer is sounded and worshipers are gathered together, the democracy of Islam is embodied five times a day when the peasant and king kneel side by side and proclaim:  'God Alone is Great'

... I have been struck over and over again by this indivisible unity of Islam that makes man instinctively a brother."

George Bernard Shaw, a famous writer and non-Muslim says:

"He must be called the Savior of Humanity.

I believe that if a man like him were to assume the dictatorship of the modern world, he would succeed in solving its problems in a way that would bring it much needed peace and happiness."

The Genuine Islam, Singapore, Vol. 1, No. 8, 1936)

In the words of Professor Hurgronje:

"The league of nations founded by the prophet of Islam put the principle of international unity and human brotherhood on such universal foundations as to show candle to other nations." He continues, "the fact is that no nation of the world can show a parallel to what Islam has done - the realization of the idea of the League of Nations."

Wolfgang Goethe, perhaps the greatest European poet ever, wrote about Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him.

He said:

"He is a prophet and not a poet and therefore his Koran is to be seen as Divine Law and not as a book of a human being, made for education or entertainment."

(Noten und Abhandlungen zum Weststlichen Dvan, WA I, 7, 32)

The western nations are only trying to become the master of the Universe. But their souls have not found peace and rest.

Thomas Carlyle, struck by this philosophy of life writes "and then also Islam-that we must submit to God; that our whole strength lies in resigned submission to Him,

whatsoever He does to us, the thing he sends to us, even if death and worse than death, shall be good, shall be best; we resign ourselves to God."

The same author continues "If this be Islam, says Goethe, do we not all live in Islam?

Carlyle himself answers this question of Goethe and says "Yes, all of us that have any moral life, we all live so. This is yet the highest wisdom that heaven has revealed to our earth."

*Prof. K. S. Ramakrishna Rao; "Islam and Modern age", Hydrabad, March 1978

But the success was not the result of mere accident. It was not a hit of fortune. It was a recognition of fact that he was found to be of true mettle by his contemporaries. It was the result of his admirable and all compelling personality.

The personality of Mohammad! It is most difficult to get into the truth of it. Only a glimpse of it I can catch. What a dramatic succession of picturesque scenes:

  There is Mohammad the Prophet, there is Mohammad the General; Mohammad the King; Mohammad the Warrior; Mohammad the Businessman;

  Mohammad the Preacher; Mohammad the Philosopher; Mohammad the Statesman; Mohammad the Orator; Mohammad the reformer;

  Mohammad the Refuge of orphans; Mohammad the Protector of slaves; Mohammad the Emancipator of women;

Mohammad the Law-giver; Mohammad the Judge; Mohammad the Saint.

And in all these magnificent roles, in all these departments of human activities,  he is like, a hero..  (May peace be upon him)

If a conqueror is a great man, here is a person who rose from helpless orphan and an humble creature to be the ruler of Arabia, the equal to Chosroes and Caesars, one who founded great empire that has survived all these 14 centuries.

If the devotion that a leader commands is the criterion of greatness, the prophet's name even today exerts a magic charm over millions of souls, spread all over the world.

He had not studied philosophy in the school of Athens of Rome, Persia, India, or China. Yet, He could proclaim the highest truths of eternal value to mankind. Illiterate himself, he could yet speak with an eloquence and fervor which moved men to tears, to tears of ecstasy.

Born an orphan blessed with no worldly goods, he was loved by all. He had studied at no military academy; yet he could organize his forces against tremendous odds and gained victories through the moral forces which he marshaled.

Gifted men with genius for preaching are rareDescartes included the perfect preacher among the rarest kind in the world.

Adolf Hitler in his "Mein Kampf" has expressed a similar view. He says,

"A great theorist is seldom a great leader. An Agitator is more likely to posses these qualities. He will always be a great leader.

For leadership means ability to move masses of men. The talents to produce ideas has nothing in common with capacity for leadership."

"But", he says, "The Union of

theorists,

     organizer

          and leader

in One man,

is the rarest phenomenon on this earth
Therein consists   greatness."

And in the person of the Prophet of Islam

 the world has seen

this rarest phenomenon

 -- walking on the earth;

in  flesh and blood . .

After the fall of Mecca, more than one million square miles of land lay at his feet, Lord of Arabia, he mended his own shoes and coarse woolen garments, milked the goats, swept the hearth, kindled the fire and attended the other menial offices of the family.

The entire town of Medina where he lived grew wealthy in the later days of his life. Everywhere there was gold and silver in plenty and yet in those days of prosperity many weeks would elapse without a fire being kindled in the hearth of the king of Arabia,

His food being dates and water. His family would go hungry many nights successively because they could not get anything to eat in the evening.

He slept on no soften bed but on a palm mat, after a long busy day to spend most of his night in prayer, often bursting with tears before his creator to grant him strength to discharge his duties.

As the reports go, his voice would get choked with weeping and it would appear as if a cooking pot was on fire and boiling had commenced.

On the very day of his death his only assets were few coins a part of which went to satisfy a debt and rest was given to a needy person who came to his house for charity.

The clothes in which he breathed his last had many patches.

The house from where light had spread to the world was in darkness because there was no oil in the lamp.

Circumstances changed, but the prophet of God did not. In victory or in defeat, in power or in adversity, in affluence or in indigence, he is the same man, disclosed the same character. Like all the ways and laws of God, Prophets of God are unchangeable.

I seek refuge in GOD, from Satan the accursed.

Al-Qur'an; Surah Al-Naml (Chapter 27): Verses:

We gave (in the past) knowledge to (Dawood peace.be.upon.him.) David and (Sulaiman p.b.u.h.) Solomon and they both said: "Praise be to Allah, Who has favoured us above many of His servants who believe!" (15)

And Solomon was David's heir. He said: "O ye people! we have been taught the speech of Birds, and on us has been bestowed (a little) of all things; this is indeed Grace manifest (from Allah)." (16)

And before Solomon, were marshalled his hosts― of Jinns and men and birds, and they were all kept in order and ranks. (17)

At length, when they came to a (lowly) valley of ants, one of the ants said: "O ye ants get into your habitations, lest Solomon and his hosts crush you (under foot) without knowing it." (18)

So he smiled, amused at her speech; and he said: "O my Lord! so order me that I may be grateful for Thy favours which Thou hast bestowed on me and on my parents and that I may work the righteousness that will please Thee: and admit me by Thy Grace, to the ranks of Thy righteous Servants." (19)

And he took a muster of the Birds; and he said: "Why is it I see not the Hoopoe? Or is he among the absentees? (20)

"I will certainly punish him with a severe Penalty, or execute him, unless he bring me a clear reason (for absence)." (21)

But the Hoopoe tarried not far: he (came up and) said: I have compassed (territory) which thou hast not compassed, and I have come to thee from Saba with tidings true. (22)

"I found (there) a woman ruling over them and provided with every requisite; and she has a magnificent throne. (23)

"I found her and her people worshipping the sun besides Allah: Satan has made their deeds seem pleasing in their eyes, and has kept them away from the Path― so they receive no guidance― (24)

"(Kept them away from the Path), that they should not worship Allah Who brings to light what is hidden in the heavens and the earth, and knows what ye hide and what ye reveal. (25)

"Allah!― there is no god but He!― Lord of the Throne Supreme!" (26)

(Solomon) said: "Soon shall we see whether thou hast told the truth or lied! (27)

"Go thou, with this letter of mine, and deliver it to them: then draw back from them, and (wait to) see what answer they return"… (28)

(#The Queen) said: "Ye chiefs! here is― delivered to me, a letter worthy of respect. (29)

"It is from Solomon, and is (as follows): `In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful: (30)

" `Be ye not arrogant against me, but come to me in submission (to the true Religion.)' " (31)

She said: "Ye chiefs! advise me in (this) my affair: no affair have I decided except in your presence." (32)

They said: "We are endued with strength and given to vehement war: but the command is with thee; so consider what thou wilt command." (33)

They said: "We have great strength, and great ability for war, but it is for you to command; so think over what you will command." (33)

She said: "Verily! Kings, when they enter a town (country), they despoil it, and make the most honourable amongst its people the lowest. And thus they do. (34)

"But verily! I am going to send him a present, and see with what (answer) the messengers return." (35)

So when (the messengers with the present) came to Sulaimân (Solomon), he said: "Will you help me in wealth? What Allâh has given me is better than that which He has given you! Nay, you rejoice in your gift!" (36)

[Then Sulaimân (Solomon) said to the chief of her messengers who brought the present]: "Go back to them. We verily shall come to them with hosts that they cannot resist, and we shall drive them out from there in disgrace, and they will be abased." (37)

"Go back to them, and be sure we shall come to them with such hosts as they will never be able to meet: we shall expel them from there in disgrace, and they will feel humbled (indeed)." (37)

He (Solomon) said (to his Cabinet ministers): "Ye Chiefs! which of you can bring me her throne before they come to me in submission?" (38)

Said an Ifrit (most powerful one) of the Jinns: "I will bring it to thee before thou rise from thy Council: indeed I have full strength for the purpose, and may be trusted." (39)

Said one who had knowledge of the Book ("a Saint"): "I will bring it to thee within the twinkling of an eye!"

Then when (Solomon) saw it placed firmly before him, he said: "This is by the grace of my Lord!― to test me, whether I am grateful, or ungrateful! And if any is grateful truly his gratitude is (a gain) for his own soul; but if any is ungrateful, truly my Lord is Free of All Needs, Supreme in Honour!" (40)

He said: "Transform her throne out of all recognition by her: let us see whether she is guided (to the truth) or is one of those who receive no guidance." (41)

So when she arrived, she was asked "Is this thy throne?" She said "It was just like this; and knowledge was bestowed on us in advance of this, and we have submitted to Allah (in Islam)." (42)

And he diverted her from the worship of others besides Allah: for she was (sprung) of a people that had no faith. (43)

She was asked to enter that lofty Palace: but when she saw it, she thought it was a lake of water, and she (tucked up her clothes), uncovering her legs. He said. "This is but a palace, paved smooth with slabs of glass."

She said: "O my Lord! I have indeed wronged my soul: I do (now) submit/surrender (as in "Islam") with Solomon to the Lord of the Worlds." (44)

I seek refuge in GOD, from Satan the accursed.

Surah As-Saff (Chapter 61) ; Verses:

(6) And (remember) when 'Īsā (Jesus) [p.eace b.e u.pon h.im], son of Maryam (Mary) [p.eace b.e u.pon h.er], said: "O Children of Israel!
I am the Messenger of Allâh unto you confirming the Taurât [(Torah) which came] before me, and giving glad tidings of a Messenger to come after me, whose name shall be Ahmed.
But when he (Ahmed i.e. Muhammad [s.a.w.]) came to them with clear proofs, they said: "This is plain magic [sorcery]."

(7) And who does more wrong than the one who invents a lie against Allâh, while he is being invited to Islâm? And Allâh guides not the people who are Zâlimûn (polytheists, wrong-doers and disbelievers) folk.

(8) They intend to put out the Light of Allâh (i.e. the Religion of Islâm, this Qur'ân, and the Prophet Muhammad SAW) with their mouths. But Allâh will bring His Light to perfection even though the disbelievers hate (it).

(9) He it is Who has sent His Messenger (Muhammad SAW) with guidance and the religion of truth (Islâmic Monotheism) to make it victorious over all (other) religions even though the Mushrikûn (polytheists, pagans, idolaters, and disbelievers in the Oneness of Allâh and in His Messenger Muhammed SAW) hate (it)[].

(10) O You who believe! Shall I guide you to a trade that will save you from a painful torment?

 (11) That you believe in Allâh and His Messenger (Muhammad SAW), and that you strive hard and fight in the Cause of Allâh with your wealth and your lives, that will be better for you, if you but know!

(12) (If you do so) He will forgive you your sins, and admit you into Gardens under which rivers flow, and pleasant dwellings in Adn (Eden) Paradise; that is indeed the great success.

(13) And also (He will give you) another (blessing) which you love, help from Allâh (against your enemies) and a near victory. And give glad tidings (O Muhammad SAW) to the believers.

(14) O you who believe! Be you helpers (in the Cause) of Allâh as said 'Īsā (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), to the Hawârîyyun (the disciples) : "Who are my helpers (in the Cause) of Allâh?"
The Hawârîyyun (the disciples) said: "We are Allâh's helpers"
(i.e. we will strive in His Cause!). Then a group of the Children of Israel believed and a group disbelieved. So We gave power to those who believed against their enemies, and they became the victorious (uppermost).

I seek refuge in GOD, from Satan the accursed.

Al- Qur'an; Surah Yusuf (Chpt. 12) : Verses:

(36) Now with him (Yusuf/Joseph - p.eace b.e  u.pon h.im) there came into the prison two young men. Said one of them: "I see myself (in a dream) pressing grapes (juice)." Said the other: "I see myself (in a dream) carrying bread on my head, and birds are eating thereof." "Tell us" (they said) "the truth and meaning thereof: for we see thou art one that doth good (to all)."

(37) He said: "Before any food comes (in due course) to feed either of you I will surely reveal to you the truth and meaning of this (its interpretation) prior to it befall you. That is part of that which my Lord hath taught me. I have abandoned the ways of a people (forsaken the religion of folk) that believe not in Allah and that (even) deny the Hereafter.

(38) "And I follow the ways of my fathers― Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (p.eace b.e  u.pon t.hem) ; and never could we attribute any partners whatsoever to Allâh: This is of the bounty (grace) of Allah unto us (the seed of Abraham) and unto mankind; yet most men (people) are not grateful.

(39) "O my two companions of the prison! (I ask you): are many lords differing among themselves better, or Allah, the One Supreme and Irresistible?
